Bengaluru, September 24, 2026: Repair work has begun on the 100-Foot Road at Vajarahalli, connecting Kanakapura Road towards Turahalli Forest, following years of complaints from residents and motorists about potholes, waterlogging, damaged footpaths and traffic congestion. The repair work reportedly started on September 22.
The road has been a regular concern for commuters in the area, with residents reporting deteriorating road surfaces and difficulties caused by incomplete or poorly restored stretches. Sections affected by earlier utility and other works were reportedly left in unsatisfactory condition, contributing to congestion and making daily travel more difficult.
The commencement of repair work is expected to improve movement along the important stretch connecting residential areas around Vajarahalli with Kanakapura Road and the Turahalli Forest side.
According to reports, the problems were not limited to potholes. Residents have also raised concerns about footpath maintenance, roadside parking and drainage, particularly during periods of rain. These issues can affect both motorists and pedestrians using the road.
The condition of the footpath near Vajarahalli Metro Station has also attracted attention. Residents say that a ramp-like pedestrian facility intended to help commuters access the station has not been functioning effectively because of obstruction and parking.
Drainage is another major issue identified by residents. Near Rajathagiri Palace, residents have reportedly raised concerns that the road's slope directs rainwater towards the carriageway instead of efficiently carrying it into the roadside drainage system.
Poor drainage can increase waterlogging during heavy rainfall and contribute to further deterioration of road surfaces. Bengaluru has experienced repeated problems with waterlogging in vulnerable areas during intense rain, with earlier reports documenting flooding and traffic disruption in several parts of the city.
The India Meteorological Department's Bengaluru forecast for September 24 indicated a generally cloudy sky with the possibility of rain or thundershowers and warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of around 30–40 kmph.
The Vajarahalli area has grown around major residential developments and public-transport connections. With the Metro providing an alternative mode of travel, pedestrian access to stations has become an increasingly important part of local infrastructure.
Residents have therefore called for road repairs to be accompanied by improvements to footpaths and drainage rather than focusing only on the road surface. The objective is to make the entire corridor safer and more usable for motorists, pedestrians and public-transport commuters.
The Greater Bengaluru Authority and other civic agencies continue to face pressure to address road quality, drainage and pedestrian infrastructure across the expanding city. Recent Bengaluru reporting has also highlighted the rollout of e-Aasthi 2.0, an upgraded property-record management system integrating information from Kaveri, BESCOM and BWSSB.
For residents of Vajarahalli and surrounding neighbourhoods, the immediate focus will be on whether the ongoing road work is completed properly and whether associated drainage and footpath problems are addressed alongside the carriageway repairs.
