Bengaluru, September 24, 2026: Bengaluru police conducted a special night-time enforcement drive in the city's East Division, checking vehicles, suspected drug-related activity and other violations. The operation resulted in 27 cases related to drug consumption, according to a report published on September 24.
The coordinated operation was conducted between approximately 9 pm and 11.30 pm, with police teams deployed at multiple locations across the division. Authorities said the drive was intended to strengthen surveillance and enforcement against drug-related activity and other violations during night hours.
A total of 62 police teams comprising 365 personnel participated in the operation. Officers established 35 nakabandi points for checking vehicles and monitoring suspicious activity.
During the drive, police checked approximately 900 two-wheelers, 150 three-wheelers and 75 four-wheelers. Sixty-two two-wheelers were seized for various violations, according to the report.
The scale of the operation reflects the use of coordinated vehicle checks and field-level policing as part of efforts to monitor public spaces during late-night hours.
Police registered 27 cases concerning drug consumption during the operation. Four cases were booked under Section 27(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, involving 11 suspected persons, according to the reported police action.
The enforcement drive also involved checks of people already included on the city's mobile offender list. Police reportedly checked 75 individuals on the list as part of the operation.
Authorities also carried out 210 road-safety checks during the drive, adding another layer to the night-time enforcement exercise.
The operation was not limited to narcotics-related enforcement. Police also registered 188 petty cases and 154 cases under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).
Teams additionally inspected 125 bars and wine shops during the operation. Such inspections form part of broader efforts to monitor establishments and activities that may require regulatory compliance during late-night hours.
Night-time enforcement drives are intended not only to identify violations but also to increase police visibility in public areas. Vehicle checks, inspections of establishments and monitoring of individuals listed in police records can help authorities identify potential violations and respond to incidents.
The Bengaluru operation comes amid continuing attention on public safety and law enforcement in the city. Recent reports have included investigations into violent incidents and cybercrime, highlighting the range of challenges faced by city police.
Alongside traditional policing, Bengaluru authorities are also dealing with increasingly complex cybercrime investigations. Earlier this week, Bengaluru cyber police arrested three people in an alleged online trading and investment fraud case involving a loss of nearly ₹94 lakh to a city resident.
Investigators reportedly identified more than 500 mule bank accounts connected to the alleged fraud network, with digital trails extending to locations including Kolkata, Hong Kong and California.
The contrasting cases illustrate the range of public-safety issues being handled by Bengaluru law-enforcement agencies, from street-level violations and drug enforcement to sophisticated financial cybercrime.
